Winner: Spilprisen Best Educational Game 2015

Machineers is a premium mobile puzzle game aimed at older children and young teenagers, with the aim of encouraging development of logical thinking skills. Originally a thesis project investigating teaching through play, Machineers attracted investment and I joined the company in April 2014.

Machineers won several awards, including “Best Game for Purpose” from CHI Paris and Best Educational Game Spilprisen 2015.

Project Management

In a small team, concise estimates are important to meet milestones. When answering to an investor, failing to meet what is promised for milestone builds can mean losing out on funding for further development, so planning is critical.

Puzzle Design

A Machineers puzzle is a machine unique to the game world, but it usually has some relation to a real-world object.

Sandboxes

Our sandbox missions allow players to experiment with game mechanics and give them a lot of space to play in.

Showcasing the game

I was privileged to showcase Machineers at a number of expos and conferences. Manning the booths, I would encourage players to try the game and learn from their feedback.

Storytelling

Each episode contains 12 machines to repair, each belonging to a character in the world. As you talk with and assist each character, players learn more about the world and its inhabitants.
